Coyoteshift is the new name for Portal
Same app, same price, same team. Nothing changes for you except the name and the icon. We renamed it because “Portal” was impossible to search for, and because a coyote is up before dawn and still working at close, which felt about right.
The big fall update
The biggest update yet: approvals, labour rules you set yourself, timesheets, tips, checklists and a Simple mode for people who would rather use pen and paper. Rolling out to Pro now — each feature arrives as a switch the owner turns on, and staff meet one new thing at a time with a two-line how-to.
Simple mode, on every plan
Large text, plain words, big buttons, one thing per screen. Clock in, see the schedule, ask for time off — and for owners, make the schedule and approve requests — without learning an app. Advanced is one tap away for everyone else.
For your staff
- My Time. Staff see their own punches. Forgot to clock out? They ask for a fix and a manager taps approve.
- Sign in with Face ID. A passkey on their own phone instead of a password to forget.
- Time off they can see. A calendar of who is off, days you have blocked out, balances that show what is left, and a request form where they tap the days.
- Open shifts. Post a shift, staff claim it, you approve. Availability changes work the same way.
- “Got it”. Staff confirm they have seen the new schedule, an announcement or a policy; you see who has not and remind once.
For your managers
- Today, on one screen. What needs approving, who is late or not clocked in, checklists still open, hours so far.
- Checklists and a log book. Opening and closing checklists with an alert if one is left unfinished; a daily log per location for handovers, with photos.
- Copy last week. Build the schedule from last week or a saved template, preview first. Shift reminders and late alerts go out on their own.
- Timesheets. Approve each person’s week before payroll. A manager never approves their own.
For owners
- Your rules, your defaults. Overtime, breaks, holiday or Sunday premium pay, time-off accrual, late windows — set per location by you. We suggest defaults; we never decide your labour rules.
- Labour cost you can see. Wages per person, the week’s cost while you build it, a labour report by week or month, and a payroll export.
- Tips. Pool by role, declare cash tips at clock-out, export it all.
- Talk to Schedule. Type “Maria opens Monday to Wednesday, Sam closes the weekend” and the draft fills in. You check it before publishing.
- Print the lot. Every location’s schedule on one page for the wall.
Built for a busy shift change
We stress-tested this release on our own server: three simulated businesses at the Pro limits (25 staff, 5 managers, 3 locations each), loaded with a full year of schedules, punches, chat and time off, then ramped the traffic until it slowed.

automatic guards stopped the test before the server itself was stretched; nothing crashed and no data was lost.
That is far more than a small business needs today, and we are not stopping there: once our founders’ seats are filled, we plan to upgrade the hosting to raise these limits further — more headroom, faster reports, room for many more shops.
“People using the app at the same moment” = active users each making a request about every 10 seconds. Measured on our hosting; your experience also depends on your phone and connection.
How we compare
One flat price per location, not per person. What a 3-location shop with 40 staff pays each month, low end of each vendor’s published list price (September 2026, tier closest to Pro):

What only Coyoteshift has: the 86 list (banned customers with photos and video, shared across your stores), custom roles, flat multi-location pricing, and a Simple mode on every plan.
Where they’re ahead today: they run payroll and POS integrations. Coyoteshift exports payroll (CSV for Gusto, ADP, QuickBooks) and POS is next.

Is the price changing?
Pro is $49/month for anyone who starts before October 11, 2026, and $59/month for new subscriptions after that. Existing subscribers and founders keep their price for as long as they stay.
